Pre-Doctoral Experience

I spent a year working as a math(s) and physics teacher at Mityana Standard Secondary School in Uganda as a Project Trust volunteer in 1999-2000. I can't think why you would be reading this page, but if you're under 18, in the UK or the Republic of Ireland, and looking for something amazing to do between school and university, I can't recommend this organization highly enough.

With my husband Joe, I organized the first ever El Salvador Reconstruction and Development Project at Imperial College in 2002, which as of 2015 is still running. We also spent a year in the Dadiya tribal lands, a very remote area of North-Eastern Nigeria as Engineers Without Borders UK volunteers, working on rural access projects. As an engineer, I also previously worked on structural and water engineering at Expedition Engineering, Arup and Buro Happold in the UK, and at the Empresa Nicaragüense de Acueductos y Alcantarillados in Nicaragua.
